DSG mechatronic repair in Melbourne
Volkswagen DSG and Audi S tronic mechatronic repair at our Williamstown North workshop. Where the unit allows it we rebuild it: sensors on some gearboxes, the TCM only on others, and solenoids when hydraulic control has failed. A complete unit is fitted only when repair is not viable.

We diagnose before recommending parts — expensive components are only replaced when inspection backs it up.
For clutch packs, fluid service and the full DQ / DL list, see DSG repair & service.
How we repair a mechatronic
The same symptom — harsh shifts, lost gears, a flashing PRNDS — can be sensors on one gearbox and the TCM or solenoids on another.
Sensor replacement
On mechatronics where the sensors are serviceable, we replace the failed speed, pressure or temperature sensors and keep your original unit. The car does not need a new mechatronic just because a sensor has failed.
TCM replacement
On some mechatronic families the viable repair is the transmission control module — the control board — only. We fit the TCM, then clone your vehicle data so the unit matches the car, immobiliser and adaptations.
Solenoid replacement
When inspection shows the fault is pressure control, solenoid replacement is part of the mechatronic repair. It is often done with sensor or board work on the same unit, then coding, adaptations and a road test.
Complete mechatronic replacement
If the valve body or housing is beyond a sensible repair, we supply and fit a replacement mechatronic, with TCU cloning, coding and the correct fluid service for that gearbox.
Indicative information only. The correct repair path depends on fault codes, oil condition, mileage and a physical inspection. We provide a written quote before major work.
How we choose the repair
- Scan the TCU and related modules, including stored and pending faults
- Road-test where the car is safe to drive, and review adaptation and pressure data
- Bench-check the mechatronic and confirm whether sensors, the TCM, solenoids or the valve body failed
- Written quote for that repair path before parts are ordered
Mechatronic work from this workshop
Bench photos from DSG jobs here — a DQ501 / 0B5 pair cloned for another workshop, a Tiguan mechatronic repaired rather than replaced, and an Audi Q5 valve body with solenoids out.

Audi Q5 3.0 — DQ501 / 0B5 TCM cloning
Problem: Another workshop needed a replacement mechatronic programmed before install. They sent the original and replacement TCM units from an Audi Q5 3.0 with DQ501 / 0B5.
Diagnosis: Bench communication with both units confirmed the replacement TCM could be unlocked and cloned from the original — programming-only job, not a strip-down repair.
Work: Backup of the original TCM, unlock the replacement, extract the required data, clone it into the replacement unit, then verify programmed data and TCM communication.
Result: Replacement mechatronic ready for install, then basic settings and transmission adaptations on the vehicle.

VW Tiguan 2017 R-Line — DSG mechatronic repair
Problem: Harsh / delayed shifts and gearbox warning behaviour on the dual-clutch DSG.
Diagnosis: Full TCU/mechatronic scan, road test and live-data checks pointed to the mechatronic unit. Bench assessment found faults in sensors and solenoids — repairable, not a wholesale “replace only” path.
Work: Mechatronic strip-down and repair: failed sensors and solenoids addressed, then refit with coding/adaptations and DSG fluid service as required.
Result: Clean, consistent shifts restored after road verification — original mechatronic repaired rather than replaced.

Audi Q5 3.0 TDI 2010 — DSG mechatronic repair (board + sensors)
Problem: Shudder on take-off, fault codes and intermittent limp mode.
Diagnosis: Scan data, road test and mechatronic pressure checks confirmed internal mechatronic faults — not clutch-only guesswork.
Work: Mechatronic repair including replacement of the control board plus sensor/solenoid attention as required, then coding/adaptations and verification.
Result: Smooth shifts restored with clear advice on ongoing care.
Gearboxes this covers
We identify the unit from the label, software and vehicle data before quoting. These are the VAG dual-clutch families, with the factory codes people usually search:
| Code | Type | Typical applications |
|---|---|---|
| DQ200 0AM, 0CW | 7-speed dry dual-clutch | Common in VW Polo, Golf, Tiguan, Audi A1/A3, Škoda Octavia/Fabia and similar smaller–mid platforms. |
| DQ250 02E | 6-speed dual-clutch (oil-bathed) | Widely used across VW, Audi (S tronic) and Škoda — Golf GTI/R, Passat, Tiguan, A3, A4, Q3 and many others. |
| DQ381 0GC | 7-speed dual-clutch (oil-bathed) | MQB and related platforms — Golf, Tiguan, Octavia, A3 and similar. Higher torque capacity than DQ250 on many models. The 0DE mechatronic is a unit we repair on the bench. |
| DQ500 0BH | 7-speed dual-clutch (oil-bathed) | Higher torque applications on transverse gearboxes — Tiguan, Kodiaq, Superb, Transporter and performance variants. Longitudinal Q5, A4 and A6 are usually DL382 / DL501, below. |
| DL382 / DL501 0CK / 0B5 | 7-speed longitudinal S tronic (oil-bathed) | Audi longitudinal platforms (A4, A5, A6, Q5 and similar) — often called S tronic rather than DSG. Includes 0B5 / DQ501 mechatronic work we repair and clone on the bench. |

Common questions
Do you repair DSG mechatronics, or only replace them?
We diagnose before recommending parts — expensive components are only replaced when inspection backs it up. Sensor replacement, TCM-only replacement and solenoid replacement are all done in-house, depending on the mechatronic. A complete unit is fitted when repair is not viable. You get a written quote after diagnostics, before major parts.
Why does the repair differ between gearboxes?
Mechatronic families are not built the same way. On some, failed sensors can be replaced and the original unit kept. On others the practical repair is the TCM, followed by cloning so the module matches your car. Solenoids are replaced when the fault is hydraulic control. We identify the gearbox code first — DQ200, DQ250, DQ381, DQ500, DL382 or DL501 — then confirm the path on the bench.
Do you replace DSG solenoids?
Yes, when the mechatronic fault is solenoid or pressure control. Solenoid replacement is part of rebuilding the unit, together with coding, adaptations and a road test. It is quoted only after the scan and bench check show that is the failed part.
Which mechatronics do you work on?
VAG dual-clutch units we see in the workshop: DQ200 (0AM / 0CW), DQ250 (02E), DQ381 (0GC, mechatronic often 0DE), DQ500 (0BH) and Audi longitudinal DL382 / DL501 (0CK / 0B5). Volkswagen DSG, Audi S tronic, Škoda and Cupra.
Can another workshop send a mechatronic in?
Yes for TCM cloning: send or drop off the original and replacement TCM / mechatronic. We clone on the bench and return the programmed unit. Basic settings and adaptations still need to be done on the vehicle — in your workshop, or here if the car comes in. A strip-down repair (sensors or solenoids) is assessed on the unit itself.
